Island Time

In which the blog realizes it’s on permanent semi-vacation, and that’s OK

In Hawaii, there’s this concept called "Island Time," which essentially means that if you expect something to happen quickly, or on a strict regimen, get over it, because it’s Hawaii, and, really, what’s the rush?

If you live there and need, say, an appliance repaired, Island Time can be an aggravation. But if you’re vacationing there — as we were last month, in Maui — Island Time is very easy to get used to.

So, after yet another false start of trying to give this blog a purpose, I’ve decided I’m instead putting it on Island Time. Actually, in true Island Time fashion, I realized belatedly that the blog had put itself on Island Time. (Plus, in further evidence of the arrival of IT, I meant to post this about two weeks ago.)

The paucity of posts here lately doesn’t mean my creative well is dry, it’s just busy in other, less visible directions. It also doesn’t mean that I don’t have things to say, it just means I don’t necesarily want to say them on the intertubes, at least not in blog form. As proof, my nascent Twitter feed is already more active than this blog.

Putting the blog on Island Time means that I am accepting that I will post here whenever I happen to post here. I will write about whatever I want. And so be it. Don’t worry about it. Island Time, baby.

Maybe someday, this blog will have a raison d’etre. But for now, thanks to Island Time, it’s just a raison in the sun.
