The Key Word is Mystery
The MST3K ’bots are coming to the web, but apparently not to do what we expect of them
Today came the out-of-the-blue news that Mystery Science Theater 3000 is coming back. Technically/not really.
MST3Kinfo.com (which had been also MST3K.com, but now has to kiss that handy addy goodbye) reports that next week Best Brains Inc., the company that produced MST and still holds all rights to it (which is why RiffTrax and related ventures are ’bot-free), is relaunching MST3K.com as a showcase for … animated adventures of Crow, Servo, and Gypsy.
Yes, the correct answer is, "The hell?"
Let’s review. Mike Nelson, MST’s latter-day host and head writer for most or all of the great show’s tenure, along with the terribly funny Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (second Servo and second Crow respectively) have ingeniously brought the heart of MST — the riffing — to DVD (via the Film Crew line) and stage and computer screen (with RiffTrax). Meanwhile, BBI, instead of finding a way to join forces with Nelson and crew to bring MST back for real somehow, is instead off to produce … this.
Hey, maybe these toons will be hilarious, though it’s hard to imagine given the promotional graphic, which apparently was made by Mrs. Wiedermeyer’s third-grade class. We’ll see when it launches, but based on the info it sounds like a big, big case of Missing the Point.

Oh dear sweet Mother McCree that looks awful! Is Mrs. Wiedermeyer’s third-grade class filled with abused children with crippled hands?
