The Duffinator?
A Simpsons rerun gives the California primary its only note of interest
The date is 6.5.6, and California is bracing for Revelation — of which Democrat will lose the race for governor in November. In tomorrow’s primary, the forces of lame and lamer will collide in the final battle to determine who will get squashed by Schwarzenegger. You out there beyond our borders may have read something about Ahnuld losing his hold on the voters, but the thing is, you haven’t been subjected to the "contenders" the Democrats are limply lobbing against him. Sigh. Vier more years.
But in the race to irrelevancy, one of the Democrats may have gotten a slight edge on Election Eve, thanks to a Bay Area syndication repeat of The Simpsons. Tonight, UPN-44 just happened to show the episode "Pygmoelion," a classic in which Moe gets plastic surgery. Turns out it includes a brief appearance by the vice president of calendars and fake IDs for Duff Beer, whose name is … Phil Angelides. Just like one of the candidates.
The Washington Post caught onto this freak cameo last month. Investigations show that it was just a case of the LA-based Simpsons writers liking the name. "Angelides." It does roll off the tongue. Like "gubernatorial." And "ineffectual."
Speaking of Cartoons and the Apocalypse…
I get why the Omen remake is opening on 6.6.6, but shouldn’t that really be the release date for the Garfield sequel?
